Description: Herculan is a devout Puritan who leads a traditional family life. He made a promise to his son, Serginho, on his wife's deathbed that he would never be with another woman. His brother, Patrício, takes advantage of Herculano's dependence on him and manipulates him to gain more control. Patrício places a picture of Geni, a notorious singer and prostitute, on Herculano's table, and after getting drunk, Herculano goes to the brothel and spends the night with her. He denies the affair at first, but he and Geni fall in love. Herculano promises to marry her, but in order to do so, he must first convince Serginho to go on a trip. However, when Serginho realizes what is happening, he refuses to leave, and a bigger problem begins to torment Herculano.
