I_m Victoria Sinclair and you_re inside the naked newsroom. Hurricane Sandy is now a category 2 storm with sustained winds of 110 miles per hour. Jamaica felt it_s wrath on Wednesday and now it_s CUBA_S turn with the US in its sights for Friday. Kat Curtis has the story.Vic according to the National Hurricane Center Hurricane Sandy will drop upwards of 11 inches of rain on the eastern parts of Cuba. Thousands of people have been moved to storm safe havens away from areas that are expected to flood. Many hotels have set up generators for power in the case of emergency. Heavy rains are also expected in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Sandy has already claimed the life of one man in Jamaica and two others in the Caribbean. Vic?Now I know there_s been some concern about this storm for Florida residents Kat. Should people there be worried?Well at this point it looks like Sandy will weaken as the storm passes over Cuba. Experts have issued a tropical storm watch which means strong winds and heavy rains. But it_s doubtful Sandy will have the same impact we_ve seen over these last couple of days. Good to know. Shifting gears now I know you_ve also been following the sentencing hearing of the man infamously known as the Millennium bomber. Has the judge reached a decision yet?He has Vic. Algerian Ahmed Ressam will now serve 37 years behind bars for plotting to bomb Los Angeles International Airport on December 31st 1999. Ressam was nabbed at the US-Canada border near Seattle in December _99 and later convicted of conspiracy to commit a terrorist act and smuggling explosives. Ressam became a key informant on the inner workings of Al-Qaeda leading the feds to 100 other suspected terrorists. But in 2003 he stopped cooperating with authorities. He was originally sentenced to 22 years in prison but in 2010 prosecutors started pushing for a longer term. Back to you.The longer he_s behind bars the better much appreciated Kat. Over to the Middle East now where the United States and Israel are spending three weeks holding their largest-ever joint military exercises. Approximately 35 hundred American soldiers have been brought in to the region where they_ll work with Israeli troops on strategies designed to better protect the Jewish state. In a news conference outside of Tel Aviv Senior Air Force General Craig Franklin stressed the importance of the initiative saying the U.S. is 100 percent committed to the security of Israel.
