It all started with over 300 Police surrounding the home of an Al-Qaeda trained militant accused of the shooting deaths of seven people in Toulouse (too-LOOZ). Victoria Sinclair_s been following the latest developments and joins us now with the latest. VS) Hi Eila. Everyone can breathe a sigh of relief. After 32 hours, the siege of the five-story apartment building of Mohammed Merah (may-RAH) is finally over.EA) That_s VERY good news, but from what I understand, he did not go quietly.VS) Unfortunately that_s true as well. He told authorities he wanted to die with a weapon in his hands, and it looks like he got what he asked for. Here_s what we know right now. VS) Following stalled negotiations and hours of silence between the two sides, French police stormed the apartment of Mohammed Merah at 11:30 am local time Thursday. According to police reports, the 23-year old gunman emerged from the bathroom in a blaze of gunfire and jumped out the window, firing as he fell to his death. Two officers were wounded in the exchange. Earlier, Merah told negotiators that the killings were to avenge the deaths of Palestinian children, as well as France_s military presence in Afghanistan. Australian police are celebrating the capture of THAT country_s most-wanted fugitive. 38-year-old Malcolm Naden (NAY-din) had been on the run since being accused of murder back in 2005. A master outdoorsman, Naden repeatedly managed to elude authorities. But on Thursday police surrounded a campsite in New South Wales and finally got their man. He_s now been charged with murder, the attempted murder of a police officer during a previous manhunt, and two counts of indecent aggravated assault A disturbing scene is unfolding in the African nation of Mali (MA-lee). Rebel forces have appeared on state radio and TV, announcing that they have overthrown the government and assumed command of the country. This just hours after an assault on the presidential palace of Amadou Toumani Toure (ah-mah-DOO too-mah-NEE TOO-RAY). Sources say a number of government ministers have been arrested. The soldiers, who call themselves the Committee for the Re-establishment of Democracy and the Restoration of the State, issued a nationwide curfew and claimed that the country_s constitution had been suspended. Eila, President Toure has yet to release an official statement and his whereabouts at this time are unknown. That_s your first look at the news, back to you.
