The quake hit just 3 days after Japan marked the one-year anniversary of the fatal 9-point-oh magnitude tremor and sweeping tsunami that led to the Fukushima nuclear crisis - a situation that is still far from over. WSJ) Elsewhere on the international scene, US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta (pan-NET-uh) has arrived for a very important visit in Afghanistan. He_s there hoping to ease tempers over the shocking shooting rampage by a US soldier as well as the recent burning of Korans by NATO troops. PP) Whitney, Panetta is scheduled to meet with local tribal leaders and Afghan officials during his two-day visit. The killing spree by that US soldier has led to violent threats from the Taliban, and outrage from Afghan president Hamid Karzai. (ha-MID kar-ZY), He called the Sunday shooting spree acts of terror and unforgivable. Panetta is the first high-ranking American official to visit Afghanistan since the incident. PP) Meanwhile back in the US, President Barack Obama has been playing host to a very high-profile visitor of his own British Prime Minister David Cameron is stateside for a visit that will see him sit down with the President for discussion on topics ranging from Afghanistan to the upcoming NATO summit.
