I hear it_s getting VERY heated VicIt sure is Natasha. The Romney campaign is demanding an apology over allegations that Team Obama is making in their latest campaign ads. Namely, that Romney is outright LYING to the American people. In a nutshell, Romney used to run a company called Bain Capital, but claims he left in 1999 to work on the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. However, the Obama team claims that Romney_s own SEC filings PROVE he was with Bain for a few more years, when the firm was outsourcing jobs to other countries. They say that either Romney_s lying about when he left, or the filings were false, which constitutes a felony. Romney_s now claiming that he and I quote retired retroactively. They_re demanding an apology for the deceptive ads but, unsurprisingly, Obama says they won_t be getting one.In financial news today, American government officials speaking anonymously say that the US Justice Department is building cases against several prominent financial institutions for manipulating interest rates. The firms - including Barclays n are suspected of fixing the London interbank offered rate n or LIBOR. Those rates would then determine borrowing costs for everything from mortgages to student loans. Barclays has already agreed to a 450-million dollar settlement in a case relating to rate-rigging. However, that deal does NOT protect individual employees from criminal prosecution. It_s expected that charges will be laid against at least one bank within the next several months.A New York Times report alleges that the US Food and Drug Administration has been spying on its own scientists The FDA has admitted to monitoring the emails of as many as 21 people, including some messages that were sent directly to President Barack Obama over safety issues. The agency claims that they had evidence that trade secrets had been leaking out, in particular from the makers of medical devices and prescription drugs. A spokesperson for the FDA says that they limited their monitoring to communications on work computers. But some critics claim that it_s a tactic by the agency to discourage whistle-blowers.
