The US Environmental Protection Agency claims the 2015 Porsche Cayenne and several other models come equipped with the same software that triggered the worldwide Volkswagen scandal. Up to 10 thousand of the cars sold in the US could now be recalled. Yemen is being pummeled by a rare tropical cyclone. Chapala made landfall early Tuesday and is the most powerful storm to hit the country since records began. Wind gusts of over 100 miles per hour have been reported, and the usually arid desert republic could receive 10 YEARS worth of rainfall before its all over. Yemen is currently embroiled in a civil war which could make rescue efforts even more difficult. And President Obama wants to ban federal agencies from asking job applicants about their criminal histories. During a speech at Rutgers University on Monday, the president said that qualifications should be looked at first, before potential candidates were screened out. The mute feature is expanding to notifications, and instead of just users, you_ll also be able to mute words, phrases and whole conversations Definitely not a cure-all, but every bit helps Facebook and Google are also trying to clean up the web, and they_re doing it by going after fake news Rather than blocking the sites, they_re hitting them where it hurts: their pockets Google announced plans to keep fake news publishers from using their advertising service, and Facebook updated their advertising policy to specifically keep their ads off fake news sites While the moves won_t keep fake stories from being seen, they will remove a lot of the financial incentive to keep making them And the societal crackdown on bad behavior isn_t just happening online Columbia University_s wrestling team has joined the list of college sports programs to have their season suspended This comes after a series of racist, homophobic and misogynistic text messages from team members were published by a student-run website Harvard_s men_s soccer team also recently had their season cancelled for lewdly objectifying members of the women_s team. Welcome to the Naked Newsroom, everyone. All four of Ryan Lochte_s major sponsors have ditched him in the wake of his Rio scandal. Speedo, Ralph Lauren, Gentle Hair Removal and mattress company Airweave are all dropping the disgraced Olympian. In an official statement, Speedo said we cannot condone behavior that is counter to the values this brand has long stood for. Lochte was the ringleader in a group of four swimmers who claimed they_d been held up at gunpoint and robbed at a Rio gas station. But authorities had their doubts, and video evidence later proved the athletes had been intoxicated and vandalized the gas station bathroom. The incident drew international headlines and has raised tensions between the US and Brazil. The sponsorships were believed to be worth upwards of a million dollars. The Canadian Coast Guard had a busy weekend keeping shipping wayward Americans back across the border. Heavy winds blew more than 15-hundred US citizens across the border on Sunday. They were taking part in the Port Huron Float Down on the St. Clair River, which divides Canada from the state of Michigan. The event sees partiers drift down the river in rafts and inner tubes. When the winds picked up, people were sent off course and the coast guard spent HOURS scooping them up and shipping them back across the border by bus, with police escorts. And this is one of those stories that_s almost too good to be true. A fisherman in the Philippines spent YEARS sleeping on a hundred million dollar fortune - and he didn_t even know it More than a decade ago, the unidentified man dropped anchor off the coast of Palawan Island. It got stuck in a giant clam and he dove down to bring it back up with him. The shell had an ENORMOUS pearl inside, but not knowing its value, the fisherman decided to keep it under his bed as a good luck charm. Fast forward to earlier this year, when the wooden shack he_d been living in burned down, forcing him to clear out. He brought the pearl to a local tourism officer who was totally blown away. The pearl is worth an estimated hundred million dollars Weighing 77 pounds and measuring a whopping 1 foot wide by 2.2 feet long, it dwarfs the current world record holder. The pearl was unveiled this week, Carli, and the local government is hoping to keep it on display as a tourist attraction. I BET they are - I_ve never seen anything like it. The RIDICULOUS amount of money CEOs are making and how it PALES in comparison to the average worker. I know that disparity is cause for concern to many but just how bad is it? Oh it_s bad all right, and it_s only getting worse, here_s the story. The AFL-CIO_s annual Paywatch report says that in 2015, CEOs of S & P 500 companies made on average 12-POINT-4 MILLION DOLLARS. That amount comes out to 335 TIMES what was paid to an average worker and over 800 times what people on minimum wage would make Back in the nineties, that ratio was just 100 times more then the average worker. And if that wasn_t enough of a slap in the face, it turns out CEOs are also rewarded for avoiding taxes Chief Execs of many companies who moved profits overseas received salaries 79 PERCENT HIGHER than the other CEOs But in a bit of GOOD news for workers, an updated rule is expected to make over 4 million American workers eligible for overtime The new rule unveiled by the Obama administration will raise the salary threshold at which people are eligible for overtime pay from about 24 thousand dollars to almost 48 thousand. That change means about 35 percent of full-time salaried workers will be eligible, up from only 7 percent. This is the first time the threshold has been updated since 2004 And in the may not have a job anytime soon category, a congressional candidate is in hot water after a screen capture included in a Facebook post seemed to reveal his porn habits. Mike Webb is a conservative running as an independent in Virginia_s eighth district. The Facebook post, which mentioned his congressional run, also included a snapshot of his web browser. Clearly visible in it were tabs with the titles Ivone Sexy Amateur and Layla Rivera Tight. Look it up, its a thing The movie is Logan, and it stars my future husband, Hugh Jackman. Here_s Madison, NAKED, at the Movies The character Logan may be better known to most film-goers as Wolverine, which is why the TITLE Logan tells you so much about this latest addition to the X-Men canon. This is the character at his most human, with diminished powers, an ailing father figure in the form of Charles Xavier, and a situation where he_s just struggling to get by. If, as expected, this is Hugh Jackman_s last time playing Wolverine, Logan is a very fitting and highly entertaining exit. It_s in theaters now. The Last Word hopefully won_t literally be the last word we get from iconic actress Shirley MacLaine, but you can_t help but see the parallels In this movie, she plays a retired businesswoman who engages a young writer played by Amanda Seyfried to put together her life story, only to realize it_s not what she thought it would be. I know a tale of self-discovery and female friendship may not be everyone_s cup of tea, but if you_re in the mood for a charming story starring two of the best actresses of their respective generations, The Last Word is out now. Wilson stars Woody Harrelson in the title role, and it_s a great fit for Harrelson_s gift at creating characters who are somehow lovable without being likable. When I tell you it_s based on a graphic novel and script by Daniel Clowes, the slightly warped mind behind Ghost World, you_ll hopefully be psyched to see Woody working without a filter I_m not sure Wilson_s someone I_d want to spend a lot of time with in real life, but for an hour and a half on the big screen, he_s a treat Wilson premiered at Sundance in January and is due to come out later this month. Of course, when it comes to sci-fi, I trust Kat_s judgement above all else so let_s hear what SHE has to say Fresh off his surprise bad-guy turn in last year_s Interstellar, Matt Damon returns to space in the sci-fi survival flick, The Martian. Matt plays Mark Watney, a botanist-turned-astronaut sent to Mars to help cultivate a sustainable food source. When an unexpected sandstorm threatens the mission, Mark and the rest of the Ares 3 crew are ordered to evacuate, or face being stranded on the red planet indefinitely. Debris from the storm interferes with Mark_s spacesuit and his vital signs monitor stops working. The rest of the crew presume him dead and have no choice but to leave him behind. Here_s Matt talking about what his character will need to do to survive. Unlike the science-heavy scenes of Interstellar, The Martian keeps things simple and focuses on the human side of the story - and it isn_t just Mark who is suffering. The Canadian Coast Guard had a busy weekend keeping shipping wayward Americans back across the border. Heavy winds blew more than 15-hundred US citizens across the border on Sunday. They were taking part in the Port Huron Float Down on the St. Clair River, which divides Canada from the state of Michigan. The event sees partiers drift down the river in rafts and inner tubes. Oh it_s bad all right, and it_s only getting worse, here_s the story. The AFL-CIO_s annual Paywatch report says that in 2015, CEOs of S & P 500 companies made on average 12-POINT-4 MILLION DOLLARS. That amount comes out to 335 TIMES what was paid to an average worker and over 800 times what people on minimum wage would make Back in the nineties, that ratio was just 100 times more then the average worker. And if that wasn_t enough of a slap in the face, it turns out CEOs are also rewarded for avoiding taxes Chief Execs of many companies who moved profits overseas received salaries 79 PERCENT HIGHER than the other CEOs But in a bit of GOOD news for workers, an updated rule is expected to make over 4 million American workers eligible for overtime The new rule unveiled by the Obama administration will raise the salary threshold at which people are eligible for overtime pay from about 24 thousand dollars to almost 48 thousand. That change means about 35 percent of full-time salaried workers will be eligible, up from only 7 percent. This is the first time the threshold has been updated since 2004 And in the may not have a job anytime soon category, a congressional candidate is in hot water after a screen capture included in a Facebook post seemed to reveal his porn habits. Mike Webb is a conservative running as an independent in Virginia_s eighth district. The Facebook post, which mentioned his congressional run, also included a snapshot of his web browser. Wilson stars Woody Harrelson in the title role, and it_s a great fit for Harrelson_s gift at creating characters who are somehow lovable without being likable. When I tell you it_s based on a graphic novel and script by Daniel Clowes, the slightly warped mind behind Ghost World, you_ll hopefully be psyched to see Woody working without a filter I_m not sure Wilson_s someone I_d want to spend a lot of time with in real life, but for an hour and a half on the big screen, he_s a treat Wilson premiered at Sundance in January and is due to come out later this month. Matt plays Mark Watney, a botanist-turned-astronaut sent to Mars to help cultivate a sustainable food source. When an unexpected sandstorm threatens the mission, Mark and the rest of the Ares 3 crew are ordered to evacuate, or face being stranded on the red planet indefinitely. Debris from the storm interferes with Mark_s spacesuit and his vital signs monitor stops working. The rest of the crew presume him dead and have no choice but to leave him behind. Here_s Matt talking about what his character will need to do to survive. Unlike the science-heavy scenes of Interstellar, The Martian keeps things simple and focuses on the human side of the story - and it isn_t just Mark who is suffering. His crewmates feel tremendous guilt at leaving a man behind, especially commander Jessica Chastain. Director Ridley Scott helms this one and is no stranger to space-he was behind the classic film Alien as well as 2012_s Prometheus. But as Mr Scott is about to explain, there_s one MAJOR difference with The Martian. Ridley Scott has put together a realistic thrill ride that will have you glued to your seat. Matt Damon puts together an amazing performance and the supporting cast of Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Kate Mara and Sean Bean anchor the rescue efforts with a determination that demonstrates the best of the human spirit.
