Katie's head hit the pillow like it was the first time she'd ever laid eyes on it, the city lights humming faintly through the window as if mocking her. She didn't even have time to scream before the gun pressed into her ribs. A silenced pistol, sleek and cold, the kind of weapon that makes you think about the city's underbelly. The hitman's voice was low, almost like he was whispering a secret, but his eyes were hard, like steel. "You got a minute, Katie?" he asked, the way a guy might ask for a smoke after a long day.......
